RSI Checklist
Syllabus
- What are all the ways they can contact you, and do you have a preference (email vs phone vs Canvas inbox, etc.)?
- When (times and days) will it be most effective for them to contact you?
- Typically, how quickly can students expect to hear back from you?
- Do you host office hours? If so, when, where, and in what modality?
- How will you be providing feedback to students about their submitted assignments/projects/quizzes? (Canvas rubrics? Comments in Google assignments? etc)
- How quickly can students expect to receive feedback about their submitted work?
- How should students engage with you about the feedback you've provided? (email? can they reply within Canvas?)
- How often will students have the opportunity (or be required) to interact with each other? And what will that look like?
- How and when will you be collecting feedback from students about their experience in your course?"
Feedback
- Feedback should come at regular intervals during the class and be predictable.
- Feedback should be personalized and not auto-graded to be considered RSI.
Weekly Activities
Online classes should include two of the following per week:
- Instructor initiated communication (announcements, emails, etc.) about the course content (must be academic in nature).
- Direct instruction.
- Instructor initiated and led discussions. Tip: If you use videos in your class, you can make them RSI-compliant but initiating a discussion or activity around them.
- Regularly scheduled office hours, available online.
- Personalized feedback in any medium.
