RSI Checklist

RSI Checklist

Syllabus

  • What are all the ways they can contact you, and do you have a preference (email vs phone vs Canvas inbox, etc.)?
  • When (times and days) will it be most effective for them to contact you?
  • Typically, how quickly can students expect to hear back from you?
  • Do you host office hours? If so, when, where, and in what modality?
  • How will you be providing feedback to students about their submitted assignments/projects/quizzes? (Canvas rubrics? Comments in Google assignments? etc)
  • How quickly can students expect to receive feedback about their submitted work?
  • How should students engage with you about the feedback you've provided? (email? can they reply within Canvas?)
  • How often will students have the opportunity (or be required) to interact with each other? And what will that look like?
  • How and when will you be collecting feedback from students about their experience in your course?"

Feedback

  • Feedback should come at regular intervals during the class and be predictable.
  • Feedback should be personalized and not auto-graded to be considered RSI.

Weekly Activities

Online classes should include two of the following per week:

  • Instructor initiated communication (announcements, emails, etc.) about the course content (must be academic in nature).
  • Direct instruction.
  • Instructor initiated and led discussions. Tip: If you use videos in your class, you can make them RSI-compliant but initiating a discussion or activity around them.
  • Regularly scheduled office hours, available online.
  • Personalized feedback in any medium.
