Simple Syllabus Training- Transferring Content
This video shows how Simple Syllabus auto imports your syllabus content from one quarter to the next. Simple Syllabus identifies if the class in the new quarter is the same as one you taught in the previous quarter by looking at the course name. If the two courses are the same, then it will auto import the most recent syllabus completed for that class into the syllabus for the new quarter.
If the course that you are teaching is different, you have a choice. You can start afresh with the blank Simple Syllabus Template or you can use a template from a course you taught in a previous course and import that content over.

Transferring Content Video Transcript
Hi everyone. This is Safiya Jetha from E-learning, and I'm going to show you today how your content from previous quarter syllabi can be transferred over to new quarters syllabi using simple syllabus. So here I am as an instructor in a course for fall of 2024. Um, I'm going to go into the settings of my course and make sure that simple syllabus is enabled. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. I see the instructor has enabled it. If you haven't had it enabled yet, you'll need to go to settings and put that into the navigation menu. I'm going to go ahead and click on Simple Syllabus here. And this is for an English 101 class from Fall 2024. And right off the bat, you can see here that it is going to auto-import the content from an English 101 class from winter into this current fall 2024 section. So when I scroll down here, all of the edits at this instructor has already made. And now in this new syllabus for fall 2024. So if you've already completed Syllabus from a previous, from the previous quarter, all of those content blocks will be filled out with the information that you provided beforehand.
There may be some changes that you will need to make. For example, we did change this student learning objectives, content block so that it's in the different format. So you may need to bring over your learning objectives from the past into this content block. And of course, as the instructor, I would go through and make sure that all of this information is as up to date as possible so that my students from Fall 2024 have the correct things. For example, in the class schedule, this is the schedule I have laid out for the students. If you went into a more granular direction of putting the dates in for week 1 to 3, etc., you would need to change those dates so that the Fall 2024 students aren't left with the dates from a previous quarter. The class schedule here. As we have mentioned before, does sync with Canvas. So if you set up your class in Canvas already, it will automatically pull in the dates, the new dates that you have set for any published assignment, and they'll become a part of this class schedule.
All the information from before is in here. Such as the instructor's grading scheme and the policies are also in here. And just a reminder that you can always go into the reorder button here, and you can drag and drop these content blocks in any order that you would like. If there is a content block that you feel like you want to add, you can also add that content block here and it'll appear at the end of the list. And then you can move it and drag it up wherever you would need it. That is all I have to show you for today. I hope this helps answer some questions about how you create your syllabus in simple syllabus for a new quarter, and if you have to redo it all over again. Luckily the answer is no. Here it automatically imports over if the classes are named exactly the same thing. Um, feel free to email us at elearning@everettcc.edu with any questions that you have. And thanks so much for listening.
